Zhang Hongwei secured his place among China's richest as chairman of United Energy Group, one of the largest private-sector oil businesses in the country. In 2011, the group took over the upstream operations of BP in Pakistan for $775 million and has since expanded production there. In addition, Zhang's Orient Group Incorporation holds a 3.1% stake of China Minsheng Banking, one of the largest non-government controlled banks in China.
